Dipl. Eng. Holger König, born in 1951, is an architect, craftsman, author of various books about ecological buildings, and software developer. In 1984 his book “Ways To Healthy Buildings” was published by Ökobuch Verlag, Staufen. It became quite famous and a 10th edition was published in 2000. From 1984 until 1994 he established a workshop with friends on wooden furniture and ecological building materials. From 1996 until 2001 he was chairman of the board of ÖKO+ AG, an assembly of builder merchants of natural building materials. In 1997 he became project manager of a research project supported by the “Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt” entitled “Lifecycle of buildings under ecological point of view”. Since then he has managed various research projects and published their results. Since 2000 he has been Board Chairman of the LEGEP SOFTWARE GmbH, producing an integrated software for the evaluation of buildings, LEGEP. The software calculates and evaluates costs, energy demand, lifecycle costs, life cycle assessments, and risk assessments. Since 2005 he has been accredited for ECOS in CEN TC 350 “sustainability of construction works” and a member of the expert group of DGNB and BNB for the development of the certification system for the sustainability performance of buildings since 2007. In 2009 he published ‘Lifecycle analysis in building design’ together with Kohler, Lützkendorf and Kreißig. In 2010 he launched with Prof. Hermann Kaufmann (Austria) a research project “building with wood – paths into the future”, the results of which were presented in an exhibition in Munich and Vienna.
